After completing his law-studies, Benoît De Leersnyder started singing at the Music Academy of Ghent with Jacqueline Van Quaille. He currently studies with Loh-Siew Tuan. He followed masterclasses with a.o. Vera Rozsa, Sarah Walker, Sir Thomas Allen and Yva Barthélémy and was awarded in 2000 Laureaat from the Flemish Operastudio. He had the pleasure to work with directors such as Ronny Lauwers,Waut Koeken, François De Carpentries, Willy Decker, Guy Joosten, Christof Loy, Philippe Serieul en Sybille Wilson.
His repertoire consists of a.o. Schlendrian in Bach's Kaffeekantate(Pocketopera), Caino in Cimorosa's La Morte d'Abele (United Nations), Conte Almaviva / Nozze di Figaro (Operastudio Koninklijke Muntschouwburg), Papageno / De Toverfluit (Zomeropera Alden Biesen, Koninklijke Muntschouwburg, Théâtre National of Luxemburg, Vlaamse Opera, Concertgebouw Amsterdam), Malatesta / Don Pasquale (Zomeropera Alden Biesen), Fiorello / Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Vlaamse Opera), Dancaïre / Carmen (Opera del Mar), Schaunard / La Boheme (Operastudio Koninklijke Muntschouwburg), Scharpless / Madama Butterfly and Ping / Turandot (Penang Arts Council), Vicomte Cascada / Die lustige Witwe (Vlaamse Opera), Frank / Die Fledermaus and Jupiter / Orphée aux Enfers .
In the field of contemporary music he participated in concerts in Belgium and abroad with compositions by Claude Coppens, Dieter Schnebel, John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen and premiered works by Alvaro Guimaraes, Johan De Smet, Lucien Posman, Victor Legley and Eddie Flecijn. He recorded recently a cd of Johan De Smets 'Confidenties' (texts by Frank Adam).
The past seasons Benoît De Leersnyder has been asked to sing de Geest van de Ring / Aladdin and Narumov / Pique Dame for the Vlaamse Opera and to participate in 'Un petit voyage d'hiver', a Schubert project for children for 100% Schubert in Flagey. With Ann De Prest, Hannelore Muylaert and Hein Boterberg he toured with a tribute concert to Léo Ferré staged by Ronny Lauwers. Furthermore he appeared in Le bal masqué by Francis Poulenc and le Gendarme / Les Mamelles de Tirésias aswell as Papageno / Die Zauberflöte for the Théâtre National of Luxemburg.
More recently he took part at “Death in Venice” in the Monnaie (Brussels). A production that will alow him to make his debut at the Scala of Milano.
Benoît de Leersnyder is developping as well a career as stage director. He created a few of the productions at the Flanders Operastudio, was recently asked to stage direct “Haensel und Gretel” in Köln (a youth production) and will sign for a special project at la Monnaie during the season 2009/2010.
