O roli Živného se podělili tenoristé Enrico Casari a Philip Sheffield - Ital byl i hlasově uvěřitelným, silně exaltovaným hrdinou, Angličan se skvěle stylizoval do stárnoucího člověka, který vzpomíná na dávné výbuchy citů a na závěr jim znovu podlehne.
Tenor Enrico Casari and Philip Sheffield shared the role of Živný - the Italian was also a vocally believable, strongly exalted hero, the Englishman perfectly styled himself into an ageing man who remembers ancient outbursts of emotion and finally succumbs to them again.

 Aufrüttelnde Musik über Musik. Jana´cek-ˇFestival. Brünn feiert Mährens Nationalkomponisten mit einer spannenden Neudeutung seiner problematischen Oper „Osud“(„Schicksal“) durch Robert Carsen.
Unter Chefdirigent Marko Ivanovic spielt das Mährische Nationaltheater seine höchst profunden Kapazitäten in Chor und Orchester aus. Scharf gezeichnete Charaktere beherrschen die Szene: der Engländer Philip Sheffield als alter ˇZivn´y, der Italiener Enrico Casari als dessen jugendliches AlterEgo, die Tschechin Alˇzbˇeta Pol´ackov´a als liebende Mila und die aus Wien gebürtige Natascha Petrinsky als deren bitterböse Mutter.
