Rising young soprano Kim Sheehan, described by Opera Now as “sporting a super voice and blissfully funny acting skills” has sung many of the roles in the coloratura repertoire in Germany, Switzerland, the UK and her home country of Ireland.
She has worked with such established companies as the Royal Opera House, Zürich Opera House, Opera North, Grange Park Opera, Theater Gera/Altenburg and Wexford Festival Opera.
In January 2010, Kim made her critically-acclaimed debut as Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos at Theater Gera. Kim was described by the German press as “a slender, but powerful and immaculately-controlled soprano” (Ostthüringer Zeitung) with “quicksilver coloratura and sweet timbre” (Freie Presse Chemnitz) and as “a little coloratura wonder.” (Osterländer Volkszeitung)
She has performed concert and oratorio repertoire in leading venues such as the National Concert Hall, The Helix, John Field Room and St Patrick′s Cathedral in Ireland, as well as St John′s Smith Square, Royal Albert Hall and St Martin-in-the-Fields in the UK.
Kim graduated with distinction and the Gold Medal from DIT Conservatory of Music in Dublin before taking up a scholarship at the Royal College of Music & Benjamin Britten International Opera School, London and the International Opera Studio at Zürich Opera House. Throughout her studies she was sponsored by the Arts Council of Ireland.
The 2010-11 season will see Kim reprise the role of Zerbinetta at Theater Gera, Germany and Theater Winterthur, Switzerland, debut as Queen of the Night (The Magic Flute) at Garsington Festival Opera as well as Belinda (Dido and Aeneas) and Giulietta (I Capuletti e I Montecchi) at Theater Gera.
