Dutch mezzosoprano Corinne Romijn studied at the Conservatory in Maastricht and took part in the opera class of the Conservatory of Amsterdam. She was given master classes by Aafje Heynis and John Bröcheler. Her present coach is Gemma Visser. In 1986, she was first prize winner of the Nico Dostal Competition in Lippstadt. Since then, her career developed fast; next to many engagements in productions of De Nederlandse Opera such as Parsifal, Offenbach’s Les Brigands, Die Frau ohne Schatten, Schnittke’s Life with an Idiot, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Schönberg’s Die glückliche Hand, Elektra, Die Fledermaus, Kát’a Kabanová and L’Italiana in Algeri (Dario Fo production), she sang Carmen at various occasions in the Netherlands and, also with Les Brigands, made her debut at the Opera of Paris. The Nationale Reisopera invited her to sing roles such as Paquette in Bernstein’s Candide, Chloé in Martin y Soler’s L’Arbore di Diana, Dritte Dame in Die Zauberflöte, Varvara in Kát’a Kabanová and Das süsse Mädchen in Boesmans’Reigen. Corinne Romijn worked with conductors such as Mstislav Rostropovitch, Sir Simon Rattle, Edo de Waart, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Hartmut Haenchen, Ingo Metzmacher, Marc Albrecht and Peter Eötvös. Under Ingo Metzmacher she performed in a concert performance of Janá?ek’s The case Makropoulos in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. In Budapest she interpreted Der Komponist in Ariadne auf Naxos, and in 2003 she sang Die Walküre at Liceu-Barcelona. At the Flemish Opera Corinne Romijn performed in Macbeth, Parsifal, La Rondine, Manon Lescaut, La fanciulla del West, Die tote Stadt, Lulu, Madama Butterfly, Le Grand Macabre, Die Zauberflöte, Salomé, The Cunning Little Vixen, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Satyricon, Carmen, Prova d’Orchestra, Maria Stuarda and, recently, in the highly acclaimed Ring production of Ivo Van Hove as Flosshilde in Rheingold and Götterdämmerung. In 2003, she created the role of Helena in Wim Henderickx’s world premiere of Achilleus. At the Volksoper Wien the mezzo interpreted Magdalene in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, as well as Poulenc’s Les mamelles de Tirésias in the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg. Recent and future engagements include Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus) on tour with the Flemish Radio Orchestra, Woodpecker in Janá?ek’s The Cunning Little Vixen and Wagemans’ Legende at The Netherlands Opera, as well as concerts in La Monnaie-Brussels.
