Albrecht BREUNINGER, violin

In June 1997 Albrecht L. Breuninger obtained the second prize at the world famous Queen Elisabeth Competition, the very first German violonist to carry off one of the three first prizes.  In the same period he was awarded the Composition Prize of the “Brandenburgische Sommerkonzerte” for his first string quartet.  These awards are the zenith of a long series of prizes, which he got in Brescia (1986), Belgrado (1986), Prague (1992), Vienna (1992), Berlin and Montreal (1995).

Very early A. L. Breuninger was initiated in playing the violin by his French-German parents in Stuttgart.  At his earliest youth he met Vladimir Spivakov and Max Rostal, who made an enduring impression on him and were decisive in his choice of violin playing.  First he studied with Prof. Thomas Füri and later with Prof. Josef Rissin.  He finished his studies with distinction at the Musikhochschule.  He was also stimulated by Henryk Szeryng, Ruggiero Ricci, Aaron Rostand, Igor Ozim, Yfrah Neamen and Ivry Gitlis.

As a soloist Albrecht L. Breuninger made his debut at the age of twelve with the Budapest Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Vladimir Spivakov during the Tours Festival (France).  From then on he regularly performs as a soloist with orchestra at home and abroad.  During the last two years he gave concerts at the Schwetzinger Festspiele, the Braunschweiger Sommer, the Bath International Music Festival, the Chamber Music Festival in Kuhmo, Finland, Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker, Kissinger Sommer and Ostbelgien-Festival.    Recently he performed as a soloist with the Beethoven Academie in Mendelssohn’s violin concerto.

His first CD with work for piano and violin by Mendelsson, Brahms, Breuninger and Wieniawsky was released in 1997.  For the Westdeutsche  Rundfunk Breuninger recorded the complete works for violin and orchestra by Eugène Ysaye, among which works that never have been recorded.   At the Hessische Rundfunk he also recorded solo works for violin and works for violin and piano by Eugène Ysaye.  End 2002 the four concerti for violin by Karol Lipinski were recorded at the label CPO.  Next CD projects are French romantic violin concertos and works from C. Ph. E. BACH with Piet Kuijken, pianoforte (label SALYCUS)
