Thomas E. Bauer's versatility and unerring sense of style have made him one of the most sought-after bass-baritones of the present day.
He recently made his debut with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Bernard Haitink (Bach St. Matthew Passion). He appeared with La Chambre Philharmonique Luxembourg (Fauré Requiem for Arte TV), the NDR Radio Philharmonic/Cornelius Meister (Brahms German Requiem), Anima Eterna (Pergolesi La serva padrona and Beethoven 9th), Combattimento Consort Amsterdam (Bach Christmas Oratorio), Musikpodium Stuttgart (Bach St. Matthew Passion), the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia (Fauré Requiem), De Nederlandse Bachvereniging (Haydn Schöpfung), Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla/Pierre Cao (Händel Messiah) and Radio Vlaams Orkest (Vaughan Williams Sea Symphony) and has been engaged for several concert tours with Philippe Herreweghe.
His recording of all of Robert Schumann's lieder with pianist Uta Hielscher will be completed in 2008. He also appears in recital with the fortepiano specialist Jos van Immerseel, recently in the Cité de la Musique and in the Concertgebouw Brügge. A CD-production and recital tour is planned in 2009/2010. During the 2008/2009 season he will debut in the title role in Peter Ruzicka's Celan in a new production at the Bremen Theater, conducted by the composer as well as at the Theater an der Wien in Peter Maxwell-Davies` 8 Songs For A Mad King conducted by Johannes Kalitzke.
Thomas Bauer will furthermore appear in the by "La Fura dels Baus" staged production of Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" in San Sebastian and Barcelona (Summer and & Fall 2009).
His repertoire includes the title roles in Monteverdi's Orfeo, Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia, Berg's Wozzeck, Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande, Busoni's Doktor Faust, Henze's Der Prinz von Homburg and Rihm's Jakob Lenz as well as Mozart`s Guglielmo, Graf and Papageno.
In 2008 Beethoven`s 9th Symphony (Jos van Immerseel), Bach Cantatas (Philippe Herreweghe), Vier Toteninseln (Johannes Kalitzke) have been released.
