Olga ONANA EBODE, soprano. Artist's name, Olga KHARCHENKO


Olga KHARCHENKO, began her musical education at the Academy of her hometown Odessa (Ukraine) in with Prof. A. J. Kulieva. In 2002 she moved to Switzerland. There she graduated at the Zurich University of Arts under de guidance of Prof. J. Thorner-Mengedoht. Subsequently she joined the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel (Belgium) where she was coached by José Van Dam, Alain Garichot, Jocelyne Dienst, Agnes Chauvot and Bertrand Halary. The more she took part in master classes with Montserrat Caballé, Helmut Deutsch, Beata Redo-Dobber, Daniel Fueter, Håkan Hagegård, Hartmut Höll, Izabella Klosinska, Tom Krause, Paolo di Napoli, Maria Nikitina, Dawn Upshaw & Kayo Iwama, Tom Krause, Andrejs Žagars a.o.  

Olga Kharchenko was awarded with the 2nd Prize at the International Competition of  Music  Montreal (MIMC,2012) and is Finalist of the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition (2011). She was granted Scholarships by the Annie Sankey Fund (2011), the Migros Cultural Percentage Fund (2010) and the Margrit Meister Foundation (2008). 

Recent engagements included her outstanding peformance in Schönberg’s Pierrot Lunaire, Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen together with the Giraud-Ensemble under the baton of Sergey Simakov. That led to a new and strong teamwork with the Élégie-Trio. Exactly like the chamber music project around "Chostakovitch" initiated an inspiring cooperation with the  famous Dutch Van Baerle Piano Trio . Also noteworthy is her participation in the première of the German version of Peter Maxwell Davies’ last opera The Hogboon, in which she created the role of „Die Mutter“ (May 2017, at the „Philharmonie“ in Luxemburg).

Olga Kharchenko, appeared in several opera productions such as : L’Etoile (Chabrier), The Turn of the Screw (Britten), Nabucco (as Anna) at La Monnaie, Herzog Blaubarts Burg (Bartók) as Judith at Tonhalle Zürich and Zauberflöte as 1. Dame (Opernfestival Schloss Hallwill).

She got lavish praise for her interpretation of Schönberg’s Gurrelieder (Tove), Lanza’s Mar, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Mendelssohn’s concert aria Infelice op. 94 and Schumann’s Das Paradies und die Peri (the latter at Salle Gaveau, Paris). Art on Ice in St. Moritz to sing together with Star tenor Erkan Aki.

Meanwhile Olga Kharchenko has sung under the baton of Lawrence Foster, Stefan Asbury, Julian Raynolds, Marcus Bosch, Nathan Brock, Alain Trudel, Michel Tabachnik, Philippe Herreweghe, William Blank, Gary Abrahams, Felix Reolon, Beat Schäfer, Xavier Ricour, Johannes Schlaefli, Daniel Schmid, Olivera Sekulic-Barac, Franco Trinca und Droujelub Yanakiew.
